My husband is losing weight and is not diabetic. He has always loved ice cream and preferred it over desserts I would work hours to make. Now, if we don’t have ice cream, if I tell him that he just had some or that we are about to eat a meal, or if I try to distract him, he either pouts or yells at me. So I have decided this is not a battle worth fighting and I keep the freezer stocked with his favorite flavors. Now I have helpful relatives telling me that I should limit his ice cream. Worth it?

I often use the phrase, “Let them eat cake,” and I mean that quite literally. If that’s what he enjoys, and it keeps him happy and maybe even helps him to keep some weight on, that’s a good thing. There’s medications to control diabetes, if it gets to that point, but there’s not much we can do about his happiness.
