The holidays are coming to a close, but if you didn’t take this opportunity to get your loved one with dementia a stuffed animal or baby doll, I encourage you to do so. I made this video for Memorable Pets a couple months ago, and I really do stand behind their products. Even if you don’t end up using Memorable Pets’ products, I encourage you to use to the tips I give in this video to introduce your loved one with dementia to a baby doll or stuffed animal.
Here are my favorite tips:
1. Decide what your loved one would like. Are they more of a dog person or cat person? Did they love raising kids? Choose what fits them best.
2. People in moderate stages of dementia typically believe that the dolls are real. This isn’t always the case, but waiting until a moderate stage (hint: most people with moderate dementia don’t know they have dementia) is a good idea.
3. Offer the doll and say, “What do you think about this?” You’ll know right away if they think it is real or not.
