Hi Rachael! My name is Maria, I am a Physical Therapist and I work in a SNF. Most of my patients have dementia and I would like to be able to help them. I want to know what courses, certification, studies do I need to be able to learn how I can help them. I am really happy to read your blog. Thanks!

Hi Maria! I have a Master’s in Gerontology, but honestly, I focused my studies in grad school specifically in dementia. I did internships that would give me hands-on knowledge, and I read a lot. Do yourself a favor and don’t pay for a certification, just read. Read “The 36-Hour Day,” my blog, The Alzheimer’s Reading Room website, and my book when it comes out. You’ll save money and you’ll learn at your own pace!

I wrote this poem years ago, but to date, it’s the most popular piece I’ve ever created.
